POSTER COMPETITIONS - Call for entries

We hereby have the honor to inform you that the Call for The First International Biennial of the Islamic World Poster has changed in dates and other principals.

The First International Biennial of the Islamic World Poster


Seeking to have a review of the designed posters in the Islamic societies during the last 5 years, Saba Cultural and Artistic Center is about to hold the First International Biennial of the Islamic World Poster.


Title: The First International Biennial of the Islamic World Poster.

Organizer: Iranian Academy of the Arts
Celebrator: Saba Cultural and Artistic Center


The Biennial will have three sections:

1. Competition


I. Cultural Posters

II. Posters on Palestinian Cause

2. Lateral Section
3. Articles


Requirements:

1. All the presented works should have been published from 1998 onwards.

I. (Note) In the section of "Posters on Palestinian Cause" the date of the creation of the work is not confined.

II. The presented works should not be smaller than 35x50cm or larger than 80x120cm in size.

1. The works can be submitted after they have been published (silk-screen, digital, offset printing). In any case the slide or file of the works should be presented with visual qualification of TIF or DPI 300 JPEG in 50x70cm size.

2. The filled-out lable of the work's qualification should be pasted on the back of the poster.

3. A maximum of 3 works can be presented by each artist in either category.

4. The artists should present a CD containing information like explanation about the work, artist biography, and a photo of the participant to the secretariat of the Biennial.

5. The works which will be submitted to the secretariat after the deadline, will not be presented in the exhibition.

6. The accepted works for the exhibition will be published in The Book of the Biennial.

7. All the participants will be awarded a participation certificate and a CD containing the exhibited works.

8. The secretariat is free to use the presented works for advertisement, site, and booksâ?¦

9. The jury will be composed of a group of Iranian and International judges.

Deadline for Posters: Oct. 5, 2004

Deadline for Articles: Oct. 21, 2004

Selection of the Works: The end of September

Opening of the Exhibition: Nov. 29, 2004

End of the Exhibition: Dec. 22, 2004

Prizes:

· Special Prize of the Islamic Republic of Iran's Academy of the Arts consisting of a plaque of honor, a commemorative statuette and 30 Bahare Azadi gold coins (an equivalent sum in an international currency in the case of non- Iranian winners).

· Golden Prize consisting of a plaque of honor, a commemorative statuette and 25 Bahare Azadi coins (for each section).

· Silver Prize consisting of a plaque of honor, a commemorative statuette and 20 Bahare Azadi coins.

· Bronze Prize consisting of a plaque of honor, a commemorative statuette and 15 Bahare Azadi coins.



The Special Prize of the Jury:

The works, which will be selected, by the members of the Jury will be awarded the special prize of the jury members.



The First International Biennial of the Islamic World Posters is about to provide and publish a collection of the articles with the following topics. Therefore all the artists, researchers and connoisseurs are invited to present their articles to the secretariat of the biennial by Oct. 21, 2004.


Topics:

1. The history of poster making in the Islamic countries.

2. The cultural state of poster in Islamic countries.

3. Introducing and analyzing the works of major artists in the field of poster making in Islamic societies.

4. The state of image making in poster design in Islamic societies.

5. Design of digits in contemporary Islamic World poster making.

6. Symbols and signs in poster design in Islamic societies.

7. The state of social and political posters in Islamic World.

8. Poster specialty and educational centers (consisting of communities, press and groupsâ?¦). Presenting illustrated and written information in this field is necessary.

9. Other topics and subjects, which are relevant to the state of Islamic World Poster.


Regulations:

1. Observation of the research principles for a paper (abstract, conclusion, bibliography, illustrationsâ?¦) is necessary.

2. The papers should be typed on (only one side of) the sheets of A4 papers preferably be accompanied by a floppy disk on which the paper has been typed in Word 2000.

3. Photos, slides, and compact disks should accompany illustrated papers.

4. The secretariat of the Biennial cannot accept papers, which have been delivered or published before.

5. The secretariat of the Biennial reserves the right to select and to edit the received papers.

6. Each paper should not exceed 20 edited pages and the number of lines in each page should not exceed 22.

7. The accepted papers, after being edited, will be published in The Book of the Biennial.

8. Received papers will not be returned back.
