POSTER COMPETITIONS - Call for entries

Annual Juried University of Texas El Paso Student Art Exhibition 2004

GUIDELINES

Eligibility:
Works of art and design completed during the 2004/2005 academic year (Summer 2004, Autumn 2004 and Spring 2005) by undergraduate students enrolled in a class in the Department of Art.

Entry Fee:
* $2.00 per entry
* Up to a maximum of seven entries per student
* Payment and entry forms due on Tuesday, March 15 or Wednesday, March 16, between 12 noon and 5:00 pm at the front desk of the Rubin Center for the Visual Arts.

Entry and Delivery:

Works of graphic design and drawing must be delivered with the entry fee to the Rubin Gallery on the 3rd floor of the Rubin Center for the Visual Arts. They will be hung in the Rubin Gallery for jurying.

All other media will be juried in the studio of the respective discipline, ie. painting entries should be hung in the 4th floor hallway or the painting studios, metals entries should be arranged in the metals studio, etc. Large scale sculpture and installations may be entered by submitting a detailed description of the work and its location in the Fox Fine Arts Center. NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. All work must have an entry label attached in order to be considered. JURYING WILL BE ON TUESDAY, MARCH 29. Entries will be paid for and submitted before Spring break, but jurying will occur after Spring break.

For all works of art: Complete three portions of the attached entry label for EACH entered work. Keep #1 for your records. Fold #2 in half so that the information is not visible to the juror and attach it to the front of the work. Bring #3, with the entry fee, to the Rubin Gallery on Tuesday, March 15 or Wednesday, March 16 between 12 noon and 5:00 pm..

Jurying:
Fine art will be juried by Kimberly Davenport, Tuesday, March 29, 2005 beginning at 9:00 am. Davenport is the Director of the Rice University Art Gallery in Houston, TX where she has recently exhibited artists such as Jessica Stockholder and Allen Ruppersberg. www.ricegallery.org. Ms. Davenport will present a slide lecture at 6 pm, Tuesday March 29, 2005 in the Rubin Center Auditorium. Free and open to the public.

Graphic Design (Poster’s category) will be juried by Lourdes Zolezzi, Thursday, March 17, 2005. Zolezzi is principal of Zolezzi Studio in Mexico City. www.zolezzistudio.com Ms. Zolezzi will present a lecture at 6 pm on Thursday, March 17, in the Rubin Center Auditorium. Free and open to the public. <

* List of accepted works will be posted in Dept. of Art office by 3:00 pm, Wednesday, March 30, 2005.
* Works of Graphic Design and Drawing not on list of acceptance must be picked up from Rubin Gallery between 3:00-5:00 PM., Wednesday, March 30.

All accepted works must be delivered to gallery between 3:00-5:00 PM Wednesday, March 30 or 9:00 am-12 noon Thursday, March 31.

Presentation:
* All works must be complete. If work is accepted it must be made ready to hang by Monday, Friday, April 1, 12 noon. (For works on paper, the student provides mat, foam core backing, 1/8" thick plexiglass (all cut to size), and mirror clips.) Or the work may be framed.
* Please keep the official entry label on the artwork.

Opening reception:
* Thursday, April 7, 2005 5:00-7:00 pm in The Stanlee and Gerald Rubin Center for the Visual Arts. Award winners (selected by the respective jurors) will be announced at around 6 pm at opening reception. Exhibition runs through May 5, 2005.

Pick-up of artwork:
Friday, May 6, 2005, 10 AM-3 PM. Bring your receipt (#1 portion of entry form.) Works that remain in the gallery after 3 PM on May 6 are subject to be disposed of at the discretion of the Director of Art Galleries.
