The goal of the 1st International Socio-Political Poster Biennale is to showcase the creative activity of poster art engaged in the social and political life of different regions and cultures.

The 1st International Socio-Political Poster Biennale is organised by the International Youth Meeting Centre in Oswiecim/Auschwitz (Poland). The Centre was founded in 1985 by Action Reconciliation/Service for Peace in Berlin, and supported by the City of Oswiecim. It is a meeting place for youth from all around the world and where contemporary art is presented, ideas are exchanged, and political discussions take place.

Conditions of participation:

1. The 1st International Socio-Political Poster Biennale may be entered by fine artists, graduates of art academies who conform to the rules below.

2. Posters with labels, together with Entry Forms should be mailed before May 1st 2006 to the following address: Miedzynarodowy Dom Spotkan Mlodziezy, Oswiecim, ul. Legionow 11, 32-600 Oswiecim – Poland with the heading, „Poster Biennale”.

3. Each artist may send a maximum of 3 posters, printed or original – in the form of a digital print-out.

4. Posters should be mailed in tubes, carefully packaged and protected. The organisers do not take responsibility for any damages that may happen during the shipment. The cost of mailing the posters to the International Youth Meeting Centre in Oswiecim should be covered by the participants.

5. Posters that have not been qualified for the exhibition should be picked up from the International Youth Meeting Centre in Oswiecim by the end of 2006.

6. Posters that have qualified for the exhibition, except for those that received awards or honorary mentions, will be mailed to the participants after the exhibition cycle until the end of 2007. The cost will be covered by the organisers.

7. All works included in the exhibition will be printed in a catalogue.

8. Mailing of the posters to the Biennale authorizes the organisers to reproduce and publish the posters in order to promote and advertise the exhibition and the Biennale event in publications without the obligation to pay author’s fees.

Judging of the posters will be done by a Judicial Committee.

The main award of 5000 PLN (Polish zloty), the second place award of 2000 PLN, the third place award of 1000 PLN and 5 honorary mentions will be granted by an International Jury presided by professor Roman Kalarus. Apart from the awards mentioned in the competition rules, there will be funded awards. Works that received awards or honorary mention become the property of the organiser – the International Youth Meeting Centre in Oswiecim.
