Aims of the Contest
As the organizers of the Festival of Dialogue of Four Cultures we constantly refer in our actions to the tradition of the multicultural dialogue that took place in Lodz during the times of the city's magnificence.
We want to emphasize, that our aim is to build the basis for the dialogue now, to give Lodz a chance to return to its former splendor. That is why we want new interlocutors to join the dialogue in order to make it more complete, embracing a greater variety of topics.
The competition included this year into the range of the Festival's events, aims at selecting a work that will promote the ideas of the Festival in Poland and abroad. It is also supposed to encourage people - artists and audience alike - to take an active part in the process of establishing this creative dialogue. The form of an open contest will allow many artists to participate actively in the poster exhibition which will take place in the Festival gallery. The organizers will have the possibility to choose the project best reflecting the voice of people communicating in the language of art. The competition is also a unique event concerning the Festival itself, its ideas, its mission and its accomplishments. To complement of the "multifunctionality" of this venture we will engage the audience into the criticism of the works. We want to give the recipients of the Festival's events a chance to decide which work best reflects the concepts of the Festival and deserves the Public Distinction Award.
We want the competition to become a prominent part of the Festival, as well as an important event in our country and, with time, also abroad.
We want to collaborate with renowned Polish and foreign poster creators and critics, in order to generate a professional atmosphere for choosing the winner. We want the contest to be attractive not only in terms of the prize but also due to the system of assessment of the jury members, strictly active authors and experts in this area of art.
Rules
The competition will be divided into two stages.
The first stage will end on the 11th of May. It is open to everyone who is of age at the time of submitting their entry.
There are two main criteria deciding about he admission of works:
(a) the work must reach the organizer before the deadline
(b) the work must fulfill points 5 and 6 in paragraph 6 of the Competition. Regulations (the project must include all information stated in the attachment to the Competition Regulations and cannot contain inappropriate or vulgar material)
During all stages of the competition, even after qualification, a work can be disqualified if it is proven not to be a genuine project.
Submitted works will be systematically added to the Virtual Poster Gallery. By the 18th of May, the Jury will choose 40 projects which will be qualified to the next stage and exhibited in the open-air post-competition gallery. These works will be printed at the expense of the organizer.
The projects will be judged paying special attention to aesthetics, the correctness of composition, as well as the functional aspects (the possibility to reproduce and exhibit the work in different formats). An important element of the assessment will be the degree to which the work refers to the ideals of the festival and how well it captures its basic principles.
On the 25th of May the jury will choose the Grand Prize winner from the projects that qualified to the second stage of the competition and award the Honorable Mention. The online poll results will be announced and the Public Distinction Award will be granted.
