TERMS OF PARTICIPATION

1 EXHIBITION CATEGORIES

A Books and Exhibition Catalogues
Concept of a book (typographic layout of a book page, title page,
heading, endpaper, etc.), book cover (binding, dust jacket), book
illustrations* (frontispice, title, marginalia, etc.).

B Digital and Audiovisual Media Covers
(CD covers and booklets, VHS, DVD, LP covers, etc.)

C Magazines and Newspapers
Concept of a periodical (typographic layout of a page, newspaper
headings, structure of contents, columns, etc.); magazine cover,
illustrations* (title motif, serial, symbols of columns, etc.).

D Type Design
Design of new typefaces (author’s type, title type, type for printed
and electronic media).

E Digital Media
Graphic design of www pages* (information and promotion
homepage), CD-ROMs or computer games.
* The following will not be accepted for the exhibition: promotional
printed matters (e.g., company catalogues and newsletters, annual
reports, etc.); illustrations which are not integral parts of a book or
magazine graphic design (e.g., loose graphic sheets); individual book
bindings and advertising www pages
(e.g., internet shopping).

2 PARTICIPATION
The participants who wish to participate should apply directly to the
organizer for Entry forms. They may apply on their own behalf;
or on behalf of an organization of which they are members; or through
a publishing house, agency or company with whom they work.

3 NUMBER OF SUBMISSIONS
Each participant may enter a maximum of 8 submissions from one
or several books or magazines. One submission shall mean one
typographic layout only (1 page), one cover, etc., not a set of works.
In the category of digital media: the information medium (internet
address, CD-ROM or video). Only works published between 1 January
2004 and 30 November 2007 shall be accepted.

4 DELIVERY OF SUBMISSIONS
Each submitted exhibit should bear a label including data identical
with that in the Entry Form. Two copies of each work shall be sent,
unframed and unmounted, in a hard protective cover together with
a signed entry form and photographs (See 5). must reach the organiser
by 30 November 2007 at the latest. Any package burdened by any
outstanding customs or postal fees shall not be accepted. That is why
no insurance value should be stated on any packages in any case.

5 EXHIBITION PROMOTION AND CATALOGUE
It is desired that each entrant provide digital reproductions of the
exhibits on CD-ROM (tif or pdf format, resolution 300 dpi), or colour
slides, to assist the organizer in the promotion of the exhibition.
A condition of entry is that the organizer is entitled to freely use any
submitted photographs and/or slides (including the making of photo/
slide reproductions and video recordings of the exhibits) in order to
promote the exhibition, produce the catalogue, and for educational
purposes.The illustrated catalogue, publshed by the organizer, will be
available to each entrant at a 50% discount.

6 RETURN OF EXHIBITS
The works submitted for the competition shall not be returned
nor insured, unless a special request is received from the entrant
concerned, and then only after the full payment of all related costs.
The prize winning and some other selected works shall become part
of the Moravian Gallery’s collections. Each exhibitor shall receive
a certificate of participation after the exhibition.

SELECTION OF EXHIBITS
The Pre-selection Committee shall make selections from the submitted
works in accordance with its professional experience, and with regard
to the entrant having complied with the terms of participation, and
space available.

AWARDS
The works on display at the 23rd International Biennale of Graphic
Design Brno 2008 shall be judged by the International Jury that
shall award the Grand Prix, main and special awards in each of the
five categories. In addition to these, the jury shall also confer the
ICOGRADA Excellence Award and other special prizes. Upon conclusion
of the Biennale, the Critics’ Award shall be awarded following a vote
by journalists and critics.
