Online Poster Design Project Kalimera Mellon / Merhaba Gelecek / Good Morning Future A project by Grafist 16, the 16th International Istanbul Graphic Design Week, about the future of graphic design, on the occasion of Icograda World Communication Design Day 27th of April, the birthday of Icograda (International Council of Graphic Design Associations) is celebrated each year as the World Communication Design Day. Grafist 16, in celebration of this important international event, is organizing an online poster design project to introduce new ideas and come up with creative solutions for the future of visual communication design, design education and the design profession: "Kalimera Mellon / Merhaba Gelecek / Good Morning Future". The structure of visual communication design and design education along with the identity of the designer are changing constantly, owing to the developments in the social, economical, cultural and technological spheres. The economical recession experienced throughout the world and especially in the European Union left its greatest impact on our neighbour Greece. It is now the people of Greece who have to pay for the mistakes of their governing bodies. During the intensity of the economic recession, life has become very hard also for the Greek graphic designers. The youth who are currently in education cannot look forward with hope to the future of their chosen profession. Grafist published a call addressed to the world’s graphic designers, design educators and design students: "As the Grafist 16 team, we follow closely the heavy burdens suffered by the Greek people, our Greek colleagues and students of communication design. We invite the world’s designers to unite in solidarity with the Greek visual communication designers and students. We would like to propose our colleagues in design education to organize and lead a workshop on 27 April 2012, Icograda World Communication Design Day. We invite the students who will participate in the workshops to salute the Greek graphic designers and student friends by saying: Kalimera Mellon / Merhaba Gelecek / Good Morning Future". We believe that our fellow graphic designers who are not still teaching, will also show their solidarity with their individual contributions to Kalimera Mellon / Merhaba Gelecek / Good Morning Future, Online Poster Design Project." Our aim is to publish the online posters, participating in the project on the web and also exhibit them in various venues as part of the events taking place in Grafist 16. With our sincere thanks to the designers, educators and students for their contributions to the project. Questions, Answers about Kalimera Mellon Grafist 16 Online Poster Project What is Grafist? Istanbul International Graphic Design Week organized by Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSGSU), Graphic Design Department, in collaboration with GMK, the Turkish Society of Graphic Designers, endorsed by Icograda, since 1997. Grafist 16 is going to be held on : May 7-12 , 2012. What is "Kalimera Mellon"? An online poster design project, for celebrating WCDD, Icograda World Communication Design Day, to introduce new ideas and come up with creative solutions for the future of visual communication design, design education and the design profession. What is Icograda World Communication Design Day? 27th of April, the birthday of Icograda (International Council of Graphic Design Associations) is celebrated each year as the World Communication Design Day (WCDD) Why "Kalimera Mellon"? Main task of Grafist is to promote regional collaborations for graphic design education. The title "Kalimera Mellon" means "good morning future", in Greek language. By using a Greek term, as the organizers of Grafist 16, we aimed to express our emphaties for our Greek colleagues and for the next generation of Greek visual communication design, who were effected by the heavy economic crises. How long the project will take place? Kalimera Mellon will start on April 27, 2012 with one day workshop programs in MSGSU, Istanbul. Graphic design schools, fellow graphic designers and educator who have conributed recent Grafist events have been invited to organize workshops in their institutions on the same day. Workshops, only May 27? Design schools all over the world, whose education schedule do not match April 27 will be able to organize workshops by May 10, 2012 and send works to http://www.facebook.com/groups/worldgraphicdayexhibition address. How about professional designers? We believe that our fellow graphic designers who are not still teaching, will also show their solidarity with their individual contributions; they will create online posters to send "Kalimera Mellon" project. Presentation? Online posters will be published in www.grafist.org site. Will be presented within the events programs of Grafist 16. Expected participants? Graphic designers, educators, design students Title and text? "Kalimera Mellon / Merhaba Gelecek / Good Morning Future" and / or a title, subtitle, text that you create How to contribute? A one-day student workshop led by an educator or design professional. Students will be asked to create online posters on the theme "Kalimera mellon/Good morning future". Workshop is supposed to begin with reading Icograda Communication Design Education Manifesto which could be down loaded from www.grafist.org address. Workshop outputs, where to send? Please send the works to http://www.facebook.com/groups/worldgraphicdayexhibition address, as RGB in JPG format, max. 1024*768 pixel (72 dpi) by May 10, 2012.
