NEUE ILLUSTRATION: THE BOOK AND POSTER ART OF 11 GERMAN ILLUSTRATORS
March 1 through April 30, 2003
Since the wall came down, German illustration has experienced a surprising renaissance. The exuberant activity in the publishing scene since 1989 produced a colorful variety of illustrations. With his sponsorship of the art of illustration Armin Abmeier - literature fiend and collector of printed matter - has won wide recognition in the field. Inspired by comics and Dada, he has been publishing the series of Tolle Hefte ("great booklets"), featuring renowned German illustrators. A bounty of books, posters and drawings, with texts from Goethe to T.C. Boyle will be shown on the two floors of NYU's Deutsches Haus, the historic building in the vicinity of Washington Square Park. Whether expressive or tender, skillfully drawn or technically reduced, the artists share their virtuosity of the traditional printing process as well as a sense for entertaining images. A catalog with original postcards by the artists is published on the occasion of the exhibition. Work by: Atak, Rotraut Susanne Berner, Wolf Erlbruch, Anke Feuchtenberger, Moritz Götze, Yvonne Kuschel, Thomas Müller, Christoph Niemann, Volker Pfüller, Axel Scheffler, Henning Wagenbreth INFORMATION:
