News: Happy new CMYK pictures
December 20, 2007

I get a lot of seasons greetings these days, and am working on the traditional Happy New Year page. One of the latest pictures was from Bartosz Lukaszonek, Poland, and I admired his beautiful psychedelic colors when I saw the picture as email attachment, using my default viewer ACDsee. But when I wanted to insert it into the web page, it looked completely different on my old workhorse image processing program Paintshop Pro. The problem in cases like that is usually that the picture is sent with CMYK colors, so I used Photoshop to convert it from CMYK to RGB, and it looked different again. Out of curiosity, I then used all the graphics programs sitting around in my PC, and each made different shades of red and green. Only Photoshop can tell me that I have a CMYK file. Only Canon Photo Record 2.0 refuses to load a CMYK picture.

So, please, do me a favor, and don't send me CMYK pictures, send them with RGB colors. I am a web publisher, not a printer.
And have a Happy New Year too!
