On Tuesday 5 January 2010, poster designer Cornelius van Velsen died in Hilversum, his place of residence, aged 88. Van Velsen was the last of a group of poster designers (among whom included his colleagues Eppo Doeve and Frans Mettes) who for decades, set a trend with their illustrations on pillars, fences and at railway stations. As well as posters, Van Velsen also gained fame as an illustrator, in particular for his LP sleeves and in later years, for his CD covers.

An exhibition of some of his posters can be seen in the Dutch Poster Museum in Hoorn up until 21 March 2010.
