Vladimir Varzhanskii is not Vladimir Varmanski

In many western publications the name of the russian artist Vladimir Varzhanskii (владимир
варжанский) is mis-spelled as Vladimir Varmanski, probably
due to an incorrect transliteration of cyrillic text into latin text. Nothing is known about the artist, and the three posters above
for the tsarist governement are all the works I found from him. But look at the typography!
Let's hope this little note helps to give Varzhanskii the credit he deserves. The illustrations above are from Nina Baburina's book "Russian poster of World War One", Iskusstvo i Kultura, Moscow (1992). |
