Tadeusz Jodlowski belongs to the generation of masters of so called Polish School of Poster. The poster depicting a mason's trowel "honoured" for its work for the benefit of rebuilding Poland was the one which made him famous. Jodlowski also worked as a teacher of the numerous generations of Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts' students. As a poster artist Tadeusz Jodlowski shows broad intellectual approach - he created monumental political posters in the 1950s and 1960s along with poetical, painterly compositions for the little audience of puppet theatres. He is also the author of the graphic geometrical compositions ruled by the principles of order where colors and typography have equally priviledged position. Letters are usualy handwritten or cut-out. In his exhibition posters Jodlowski perfectly depicts structure of presented objects: ceramics, metal, wood, or glass. Among his sport and circus posters we can find the detailed studies of the movement, and his 8th Warsaw Autumn poster from 1964 is a good example of his mastery in coverting the art of music into plasticity by the means available to the poster artist. This particular work shows also one of his experiments with photography which are abundant in Jodlowski's output. |
