Marcinkowskiego 9, Poznan (PL) www.mnp.art.pl Curator: Zdzislaw Schubert Exhibition designer: Raman Tratsiuk The exhibition will present poster art of the 20th century. The greater emphasis will be placed on how the poster has changed during these years and which poster artists had the greatest influence on those changes. The exhibition will show almost 350 posters (from 29000 included in the museum collection) created by such artists like Alain Le Quernec (France), Henryk Tomaszewski (Poland), Jan Lenica (Poland), Gunter Rambow (Germany), Per Arnoldi (Denmark). The concept of the exhibition and the accompanying catalogue was based on the "Plakatkunst von Toulouse-Lautrec bis Benetton" exhibition curated by Juergen Doering, which was presented in 1994 in the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg. The review of posters in the collection of the Gallery of Poster and Design of the National Museum in Poznan convinced the curator that a similar exhibition can be prepared, although adapted to the nature of the collection as well as the local polish specificity. The exhibition will be accompanied by the catalogue and an educational program, lectures and meetings with personalities from the poster art world. On the 9th May at 5 p.m. a debating panel will take place in the Museum of the History of the City of Poznan (branch of the National Museum in Poznan, Stary Rynek 1). Among the invited speakers are Gunter Rambow and Juergen Doering (Germany), Krzysztof Lenk (USA), Krzysztof Zagrodzki (France), Rene Wanner (Switzerland) and Peter Gyllan (Denmark). The quests of the Museum will discuss the future of poster and the changing reasons for its presence in the world. They will also try to answer the question whether poster should be viewed as a work of art or as a design concept. The exhibition annex will be presented from 6 to 22 of May, in the SPOT. gallery , ul. Dolna Wilda 87, Poznan. It will include posters from the first decade of the 21. century.
