Poster Festival Ljubljana 2011
Between 16 and 20 September 2011 we are organising the international Poster Festival Ljubljana’11, which is co-funded by the European Union. The main theme of the festival is 'The Faces of Racism Revealed'. The programme includes expert lectures, an exhibition, a panel, film screenings and other events. The festival partners of the Brumen Foundation are Amnesty International (AI) Slovenia, its offices in partner countries, and higher education design institutions from Paris (FR), Groningen (NL), and Warsaw (PL). Also participating are students of the Academy of Fine Art and Design in Ljubljana (SI). The goal of the festival is to stand against racial stereotypes and contribute to eliminating racial discrimination, behaviour and violence by (1) creating and distributing top artistic reflections on the subject of racial stereotypes and racism in the form of posters and (2) promoting a development of culture of mutual understanding and intercultural dialogue with innovative interdepartmental and inter-community education tools, which will raise awareness of the issue. The most significant direct effect of the festival is the donation of selected works to European and other international NGOs fighting against racism and racial discrimination, while reproduced images will be used for educational and similar activities. During the festival there will be six lectures by honorary guests, film screenings, public lecture by experts and human rights promoters and a panel. After the end of the festival in Ljubljana the exhibitions will travel to Paris, Groningen and Warsaw. Three partners are involved in the organisation of the exhibition: Akademia Sztuk Pieknych w Warszawie (PL), Hanzehogeschool Groningen – Academie Minerva. We are currently discussing an exhibition in the Muzeum Plakatu in Wilanow, which would be an excellent opportunity for a presentation in such an esteemed institution. |
