News: A preview of posters from "100 Beste Plakate 2011"
received from Hermann Buechner

The poster competition 100 beste Plakate des Jahres selects the 100 best posters from the german speaking countries Germany, Austria and Switzerland. All 100 are considered equal "winners", there is no gold medal or first prize. The winners for 2011 have already been published, their posters will be shown in an exhibition in Berlin opening on June 27, 2012, and can then also be seen on the website of the competition.

The secretary of the competition, Hermann Buechner, has kindly allowed me to have a peak at the results and let me select a dozen for publication on Posterpage, ahead of the official award ceremony. I very much appreciate this privilege. My favorites are below.

If I had to select the "very best poster 2011", my choice would be Ramona Casanova's "Werkschau". She is a student at the Hochschule Luzern (Switzerland), and her seemingly chaotic work is a refreshing change from the standard "white background / simple concept" student poster. Closer inspection reveals that the poster is actually carefully composed and executed, and the treatment of color is superb.
