News: Auction of the second part of the Hans Sachs collection at Guernsey's in New York
received from Guernsey's

The second part of the famous poster collection of Hans Sachs (1881 - 1974), will be auctioned on November 22, 23 and 24, 2013 by Guernsey's auction house in New York. The first part was auctioned on January 18, 19 and 20, 2013. Some of these posters were later shown in an exhibition at the Dutch Poster Museum.

Hans Sachs (1881 - 1974) was a german dentist of jewish origin, and a pioneer in poster collecting and poster publishing. His international collection counted about 12'00 posters, and his magazine "Das Plakat" run from 1910 to 1921.

The auction is a consequence of a court decision in March 2012, ordering the Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin to return what is left from the collection (about 4200 posters) to its owner Peter Sachs, the son of Hans Sachs.

Several museums were contacted before the auction for the possibility to sell the collection en bloc to keep it together, but to no avail, so regrettably it will now be scattered throughout the world.
