News: In memory of Waldemar Swierzy

The great polish poster designer Waldemar Swierzy died on November 27, 2013, in Warsaw. Below are some contributions in his memory:

Poster by Waldemar Swierzy for an exhibition by Niklaus Troxler in Warsaw, 1998
Waldemar Swierzy was the Master of Portrait in Graphic Art!
He was the first Polish graphic designer to capture my imagination - maybe because he also was a Jazz lover.
In 1994, I had the pleasure of inviting him at my hometown Willisau as a guest artist for an international Jazz Poster Exhibition at my Festival. Waldemar was gifted with a strong sense of color beside his drawing and painting skills. The color contrast in his works is almost musical – it has sound and rhythm. Just like a musician on his instrument, so Swierzy played with his paint. His posters often look as if they had just been painted, as if the paint hat not yet dried. What better appearance for a good Jazz poster!
It was a great honor for me when Waldemar finally portrayed me in Poster. It was for my exhibition at the Galeria Grafiki i Plakatu in Warsaw, during the 16th International Poster Biennale 1998. The poster that he made then could not have characterized me better.
Waldemar – I miss You!
Niklaus Troxler
