International Poster Biennale
Press release, 16.12.2013

The Poster Biennale is undergoing a metamorphosis, which is expected to attract both established poster lovers and new audiences. The new formula should reinforce the importance of the Biennale internationally and tempt a broader public to visit Warsaw and its Poster Museum. The National Museum in Warsaw and all those people and institutions involved shall endeavour to ensure this venue gains a new image and impetus as a truly international design festival.

The National Museum's Board of Directors has appointed a new Program Council for the 24th International Poster Biennale. Its new members include: Prof. Maciej Buszewicz; Justyna Czerniakowska, Dr. Magdalena Frankowska, Dr. Agnieszka Jacobson, Dr. Dawid Korzekwa, Gregorz Laszuk, Prof. Lech Majewski, Marcin Rutkiewicz, Prof. Zdzislaw Schubert, Dr. Agnieszka Szewczyk, Agata Szydlowska, Bogna Swiatkowska, Jacek Utko, Rene Wawrzkiewicz, Dr. Marcin Wladyka and Dr. Piotr Rypson, who has been elected the Council's Chairman.

The 24th International Poster Biennale, to be officially opened on June 7th 2014, will be organized by the Poster Museum - a department of the National Museum in Warsaw, in cooperation with the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts and the Association of Graphic Designers, under the honorary patronage of ICOGRADA (The International Council of Graphic Design Associations). The Competition exhibition, to be presented at the Poster Museum's centre, will end on September 14th 2014.

The International Poster Biennale's mission is to regularly exhibit the achievements in this particular field of artistic creativity. The Program Council is currently focusing on this year's Biennale, but is also busy developing a concept for the 25th anniversary edition in 2016.

It has been decided that registration for participating in the Biennale and the first round of the two works selection stages by the jurors will be carried out electronically, using an online works registration system. Detailed information on how to register will be provided in January 2014 on the website: www.biennale.postermuseum.pl. The deadline for submitting works on the server expires on February 28th 2014.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a special program of speeches devoted to the history of this already legendary cyclical event, critical analysis of the last two decades of the International Poster Biennale, and a debate concerning its future. Discussions and speeches will be held during the Graphic Knowledge Fair organized by the Association of Graphic Designers.

The exhibition of selected works will also take on a different appearance and its preparation will be entrusted to a curator selected by the Program Council. The show of shortlisted and award-winning works will be accompanied by an exhibition of street-art forms of communication (stickers, spray-can art and template graphics) and poster exhibitions at other venues in Warsaw.
