Almost sixty years ago Maciej Hübner was tempting and inviting people to enjoy the charms of Sopot with his lovely advertising poster. Today he is coming back to the Chamber Scene of the Coastal Theatre in Gdansk for our newest premiere and his exhibition.
Maciej Hübner (born 1931) - one of the most prominent Polish poster designers. Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (diploma in 1955 under Józef Mroszczak). He designs posters, book graphics, newspaper illustrations. He is involved in the arts of exhibition and painting - including marine art. His portfolio includes exhibitions in London, Paris, Vienna, Rome and Delhi. Winner of many prestigious awards and prizes at national and international graphic art competitions. His outstanding projects are appreciated till this day and they have constituted real ornaments of many collections. His posters have advertised many outstanding films appearing on our screens, including ROCCO AND HIS BROTHERS by Luchino Visconti, PICKPOCKET by Robert Bresson, THE CRUCIFIED LOVERS by Kenji Mizoguchi, LOLA by Jacques Demy, WITH BEAUTY AND SORROW by Masahiro Shinoda, THERESE RAQUIN by Marcel Carne, THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH by Billy Wilder as well as THE TWO WHO STOLE THE MOON featuring the twins Jaroslaw and Lech by Jan Batory. He has designed outstanding posters for plays performed at the Coastal Theatre, including COMEDY OF ERRORS, THE MANNEQUINS’ BALL, THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP, MATOLEK THE BILLY-GOAT and the premiere of THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA.
The opening of the exhibition of his posters will accompany Friday's premiere of THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA. The MACIEJ HÜBNER POSTERS FROM THE SIXTIETH ANNIVERSARY 1956-2016 exhibition will be open every day as part of the “Authors of Our Posters” cycle from 12 to 5 pm in the foyer of the Chamber Scene in Sopot.
