Dear Posters Network Member,
This is to let you know that we are organising a Posters Symposium at the V&A on Tuesday 13th December 2106. Its theme will be Posters: New Research, New Perspectives, showcasing new research into various UK poster collections. This is a project of our Arts Council-supported Posters Network posters-network.net. Nicola Pickering, Senior Curator at London Transport Museum, will present her research into women artists who worked for London Underground in preparation for the exhibition she is organising at LTM. Jim Aulich, Head of Postgraduate Research Degrees at Manchester School of Art, will be In conversation with Leanne Green, whose PhD thesis ‘Advertising War: Pictorial Publicity 1914-18’ explored a fascinating group of material in the Imperial War Museum. Also, Paul Rennie will showcase his research into the health and safety posters in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA)’s archive for his book Safety First. Another session will focus on an aspect of the University of Brighton Design Archives. The programme is not yet complete, so we would love to hear about any research that you yourselves are undertaking, or know about, that sheds new light on a UK poster collection. Please do let me know. Meanwhile please save the date of 13th December in your diary. The Symposium will be a free event at the V&A for Posters Network members, with refreshments provided. Numbers will be limited to 50 to 60, so it would be great if you could let me know as soon as possible if you would like to attend. With best wishes, Margaret Timmers
