WEB POSTER EXHIBITION - "People as People" exhibition in Moscow

The following web exhibition is a selection of posters from a current exhibition in Moscow, the text and pictures are from the russian graphic design magazine KAK. Sergei Serov kindly called my attention to the article. I translated the russian text into english, using Babelfish, and added portraits of the designers, most of whom I met at the Golden Bee Poster Biennial in September 2006. Please visit the original web site (in russian) for more information and beautiful high resolution pictures of the posters.

A poster exhibition for people with Down syndrome
From March 21 to 28, 2007, there will be a traveling poster exhibition "People as People" at the "Brest Club", 2-4 Brest ul., d.6, Moscow, in support of people with the Down syndrome. The organizers are the charitable foundation Daunsayd up, which acts since 1997 as the center of aid for children with Down syndrome and their families, and the design group OSTENGRUPPE.

According to statistics, 1 in every 700 babies is born with Down syndrome. This relationship is equal in different countries, climatic zones and social layers. Genetic failure occurs independent of the wealth of the parents, their health, habits and formation. In Russia 85% of families reject the child with Down syndrome in the maternity ward. And the small person falls into the orphan establishment, which they will never leave. But there is another way: The child remains in the family and is included in the program of early aid. Because of the occupations with the special teachers the little-one can successfully be developed, attend kindergarten, and then school. The child, of course, will be different, but has a large potential, and it is capable to learn much. Do we know about this? Today there are a lot of prejudices, connected with Down syndrome. The diagnosis of man is used as humiliating profanity. Because of the absence of adequate information thousands of families are forced to fight for the worthy future of their children, experiencing incomprehension and hostility of those surrounding.

The purpose of exhibition - to change the attitude of citizens toward people with Down syndrome. Well-known russian and foreign designers created a series of posters, dedicated to this theme. Among the participants: Shigeo Fukuda, Kazumasa Nagai (JP), Alain Le Quernec (FR), David Tartakover (IL), Alejandro Magallanes (MX), Igor Maistrovskii (CA), Vladimir Chaika, Boris Trofimov, Andrei Logvin, Erik Belousov, Igor Gurovich, Anna Naumova, Dmitrii Kavko, Protei Temen, Iurii Surkov, Iurii Gulitov, Petr Bankov, Andrei Sheliutto, Erken Kagarov, Sergei Kos'ianov, Aleksandr Vasin (RU).
