WEB POSTER EXHIBITION - Student posters from Lebanon about Japan

This web exhibition accompanies a recent exhibition of student posters in Beirut, Lebanon, from December 11 to 16, 2007, and hopefully a future exhibtion in Japan. Text and pictures were kindly provided by Antoine ABI AAD, Lecturer at the Academie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts, Beirut.

Nihonten, Japan seen by Lebanese

The Academie Libanaise des Beaux Arts, University of Balamand, organized a workshop, a cultural bridge linking Japan and Lebanon. Japan is well known in Lebanon, obviously through the cliches of sushi, samurai and animation movies to the extension of film directors like Kurosawa and architects like Ando. Nihonten, academically, showed a deeper image of the Japanese culture.

Purpose of the workshop
The purpose of Nihonten is to promote Japan and Lebanon mutually. In Lebanon, the promotion of Japan is through the introduction and deepening of the Japanese culture, art and design. In Japan, the promotion of Lebanon would be through the work of Lebanese students and their personal vision of Japan. Schedule 12/11 to 27/11, the students followed lectures, exercises and worked on posters under the continuous supervision of the project leader. 28/11, a jury of teachers selected 48 posters to be exhibited 28/11 to 11/12, final checking, printing and hanging the posters 11/12 at 18h, opening of the exhibition 14/12 at 18h, invitation of Japanese officials, and friends of Japan to a reception 16/12, last day of the exhibition
