Today's poster artists in Iran can look back on a long tradition in iranian visual art, and artists in other
parts of the world, Europe for example, or China, also have their roots in their country's culture, consciously or unconsciously. Isaac Newton's metaphor about Standing on the shoulders of giants applies equally to the arts as to science.
Iranian designers of religious posters have an additional source of inspiration: They are embedded in the lively, high level and profitable contemporary art scene of calligraphic painting. The Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art has emphasized this connection by showing three calligraphy exhibitions concurrently with the poster exhibition, by the three masters S. Mohammad Ehsaei, Jalil Rasouli and Nasrollah Afjei, and also two works by Faramarz Pilaram. |
