1988, Take care of the forest! |
The poster at left was Melk Imboden's first, designed while he still was a graphic design
student at the school for Art and Design in Lucerne, Switzerland.
For him it was a rough first draft only, but one of his teachers encouraged him to send it in,
and it promptly won him a first prize at the swiss student poster competition "Take care of nature".
Imboden, born 1956, is not only a graphic designer, specialized in posters and book design, but also a professional photographer, and his fields of interest often overlap, when he designs posters for his photography exhibitions for example, or books for photographers from his neighborhood. Many of the posters he does are for small cultural institutions just around the corner from where he lives, in the tiny mountain village of Buochs, and sadly his clients are hardly aware that he wins prizes for them in Helsinki, Brno, Warsaw, New York and Japan. Melk is a very friendly and open guy, and I owe a lot to him. Most of what I know in photography I have learnt by talking to him and imitating him. |
