Some pictures from the award ceremony at the Mundaneum in Mons
The Mundaneum building is a three stories high giant card file cabinet with the walls completetly covered with wooden card boxes.
I opened a few, and they are all packed with file cards, an estimated total of about 20 Millions of them.
This corresponds to a storage capacity of about 1 Gigabyte, the same amount of memory that I have in my digital
camera.

Alejandro Magallanes and jury member Alain Le Quernec
|
Adela Vorbova from Prague, a student of Karel Misek who also spent two years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw
with Lech Majewski. Adela told me that her winning poster was the first she ever sent to a competition, and also
that she saw the "Call for entries" for Mons on the Poster Page.
|
Teresa Sdralevich, one of the top young belgian graphic designers, and Leonel Sagahon Campero, in front of
Teresa's poster "Western Europe". Leonel is a partner
with Alejandro Magallanes in the mexican design group "La maquina del tiempo", and made the winning poster
to welcome the Zapatistas on their march to Mexico City
on March 11, 2002.
|
Marianne Blairon, jury member and winner of the first prize at the 8. Mons Triennial 2001
|
and her husband Jean Pierre Scouflaire, jury member, painter, sculptor and poster designer.
|
The prize winners gave a presentation of their work on October 15, but this was a closely guarded secret and only a handful
of people turned up for these world class talks, what a shame. I am grateful to jury member Marianne Jobst, curator of the poster collection of the
Austrian National Library in Vienna, for alerting me to this event at the last minute.

|
After the symposium, I did a little praying at Mons Cathedral that attendance at the next symposium would be
higher, and the Saint in charge of communication promptly forwarded my request to her boss.
