News: Deutsches Plakat Museum in Essen (DE) has new director

As reported in the german newspaper NRZ, the Deutsches Plakat Museum in Essen (DE) has a new head: Rene Grohnert will start his job on April 1, 2005. After the retirement of Dr. Frieder Mellinghoff, the position has been vacant for three years, during which time the 300' 000 posters of the museum have been moved to a new location and the museum gave itself a new operational concept.

Rene Grohnert is 48 years old, an art historian and museum specialist and was curator of the poster collection of the Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin before becoming editor of the quarterly PlakatJournal, a paper based forerunner of the Poster Page. He has contributed articles on posters in New York and Cuba to the Poster Page and written numerous others for various publications.

His thesis on the famous german poster collector Hans Sachs was the basis for a large exhibition and book Kunst! Kommerz! Visionen! Deutsche Plakate 1888-1933 at the Zeughaus in Berlin in 1992.
